According to EdChoice.org, 40% of parents would prefer to send their children to a private school, 36% prefer their public district school, 13% prefer a charter school, and 10% prefer homeschooling.
In actual enrollment, only 5% are in a private school while 83% have their children in a public district school, 8% are in a public charter school and 3% are homeschooled. Obviously the reason for this discrepancy is money, and under the policies of the current profligate federal government, most people have even less disposable income to enable choice in education.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6
Fair & Equitable for Private Schools
Long Island currently spends $36,105 per student annually, the vast majority of which is channeled to public schools. Tuition here at Our Savior is about $10,000 per year. Those who send their children to OSNAS and those who sacrificially donate to and/or work at OSNAS are also required to fund public schools through their taxes. Obviously, the fair and equitable solution would be sending educational tax funds to the schools of choice or to the parents to use for their preferred mode of education.
A Bigger Issue
This issue is becoming ever more necessary as government schools have become increasingly underperforming academically, as well as hotbeds for advancing atheism, misbehavior, socialism, evolution, critical race theory, LGBTQ+ indoctrination and recruitment, historical revisionism and revolutionary activism.
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them.” (Matthew 19:14, Mark 10:14, Luke 18:16) He says of anyone leading children toward sin: “It would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6, Mark 9:42, Luke 17:2) God promises: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
P.S. God said “old,” not necessarily when they’re a teenager!
Higher Standards
Our Savior New American School is a classical Christian school in the heart of Long Island. As a Christian school, OSNAS seeks to honor our savior Jesus Christ, the source of all truth, goodness and beauty.
As a classical school, OSNAS aims to form students who love what is true, good and beautiful. We do this by studying the highest and best that has been passed down through the ages. Students study classical books, languages and disciplines that empower them to think logically, communicate effectively and live virtuously.
OSNAS is a family-friendly school. Small class sizes, high behavioral standards, and daily worship services provide students with a positive learning environment where God’s presence is evident. Come see what sets us apart!
