Psalm 104 is a retelling of Genesis 1 and the week of Creation. From 104:4 I conclude that angels were created on the second day along with the firmament (sky): “Who maketh His angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire.”
The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;
he stretches out the heavens like a tent
and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.He makes the clouds his chariot
Psalm 104:2-4
and rides on the wings of the wind.
He makes winds his messengers (angles),
flames of fire his servants.
Angles Used By God
This verse is repeated in Hebrews 1:7 with specific reference to angels.
In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels spirits,
Hebrews 1:7
and his servants flames of fire.”
“Flaming fire” reminds me of the “chariots of fire” which swooped down and carried Elijah from earth to heaven. Jesus says that angels are used by God on the Last Day to harvest the earth and separate the righteous from the unrighteous, taking the former to heaven and casting the later into eternal flames of hell.

Angles Created on the 2nd Day
Because angels were created on the 2nd day, they were eyewitnesses to all the spectacular events on all the following days of Creation. “The LORD answered Job out of a whirlwind . . . “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth . . . when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” (Job 38:1, 4, 7) (Morning stars and sons of God can also be Biblical descriptions of angels.) No doubt their excited shouts was a deafening roar, and would make a capacity crowd in one of our sports stadiums seem rather calm. Perhaps that’s why God had no mercy on Lucifer (the “light-bearer” Satan) or the 1/3 of the angels that followed him in rebellion. (Isaiah 14:13-15, Ezekiel 28:11-19, Revelation 12)
Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have come the salvation and the power
Revelation 12:7-12
and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down.
They triumphed over him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.
Therefore rejoice, you heavens
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”
A Savior Has Come
Thank God He chose to send mankind a Savior, and gave us a second chance: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” (John 3:36) So don’t blow your second chance. There’s no third chance.
